Many critical careers that influence systemic change require postgraduate degrees. Dear Future Colleague is making graduate school & scholarship admissions more equitable, accessible, and diverse. We provide mentorship, guidance, and recruitment opportunities for underrepresented graduate school and competitive scholarship applicants — including people of color, people with disabilities, individuals from a lower socioeconomic status, and other demographics who have been systematically excluded from higher education.
In our first year of operating, our all-volunteer team of students has:
-Matched 500+ underrepresented applicants with volunteer graduate student mentors from 30+ different schools. Our student mentors offer admissions exam tutoring, essay advice, and general application support.
-Recruited 150+ competitive scholarship winners and matched them with 75+ underrepresented applicants.
-Created 11 comprehensive scholarship application guidance documents in order to democratize application information and advice, thus leveling the playing field for students attending universities that have not had prior scholarship awardees.
-Redistributed test prep books, donated by current students, to applicants with financial need.
-Merged with Leadership Brainery, another amazing 501(c)(3) organization, to amplify the support we are able to offer our mentors and mentees.
As one of our incredible volunteers put it, our goal is to create “the program we wish existed when we were applying,” and we are asking for your support to make that goal a reality. We are asking you to donate to help grow DFC & LB’s capacity to make an even greater impact in 2022. With your help, we can reach LB’s Change Can’t Wait campaign goal of $100,000 by the new year!
