Many critical careers that influence systemic change, such as lawyers, health care professionals, and educators, require and/or prefer postgraduate degrees. To access postgraduate education, students must receive a high school diploma, a bachelor's degree, and then have the financial resources and time to complete postgraduate school.
Leadership Brainery is tackling this issue. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, LB works to close opportunity and wealth gaps by ensuring equitable access to postgraduate degree programs and high-impact careers for underrepresented candidates, which includes people of color, people with disabilities, individuals from a lower socioeconomic status, LGBTQ+ individuals and other demographics who have been systematically excluded from higher education.
This year, LB has accomplished a lot! As a growing startup organization, they have impressively...
- acquired and created a robust online platform out of Dear Future Colleague (DFC), an organization with over 500 graduate school and competitive scholarship mentors and 400 mentees from underrepresented backgrounds eligible for enrollment within the next two years;
- teamed up with 14 competitive graduate and professional schools offering collectively 300+ multidisciplinary master's and doctoral degrees—many offering scholarships, waivers, and deferment opportunities for LB community members;
- hosted their 3rd Annual Impact Summit, which brought together community stakeholders for a day of empowerment, networking, and recruitment, including a host of corporate supporters and special celebrity guest, Yara Shahidi (watch her speech);
- and supported a new cohort of 26 Ambassadors, who receive curated development, office hours, test preparation, and admission support.
